The HON Foundation's organisation and activities.

An international initiative, Health On the Net Foundation (HON) is a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. HON is dedicated to realising the benefits of the Internet and related technologies in the fields of health and medicine. The purpose of the Foundation is to advance the development and application of new information technologies, notably in the fields of health and medicine.
<p>
On September 7-8, 1995, an international conference was held in Geneva entitled, The Use of the Internet and World-Wide Web for Telematics in Healthcare. The invited participants included some of the world's leading Internet, World-Wide Web and telemedicine experts. At the conclusion of the conference, they passed a unanimous resolution to create HON.
<p>
Established in 1996, HON today is widely recognised as a leading source of Web-based medical information. It is closely associated with the University Hospitals of Geneva, a pre-eminent European centre for R&D in medicine and life sciences.
<p>
Among HON's distinguishing features are several widely-used medical search engines, including MedHunt, and the HON Code of Conduct for the provision of authoritative and reliable medical information.
